The European Commission is set to launch the European Innovation Centre for Industrial Transformation and Emissions (INCITE), a pioneering initiative designed to fast-track the adoption of clean industrial technologies. This initiative aims to foster a circular and more competitive industry across Europe.
INCITE is a crucial component of the new Industrial Emissions Directive, adding a forward-looking mechanism to the Sevilla process. The Centre, based in Seville, will be inaugurated during an interactive event on 21st June, featuring participation from industry leaders, innovators, financiers, environmental NGOs, think-tanks, Member States, and EU officials. The event will feature key participants including the Acting Director-General of the Joint Research Centre (JRC), the Minister of Industry and Tourism of Spain, and several high representatives from the European Commission.
INCITE aims to systematically gather global information on innovative industrial environmental techniques. If deemed ready for industrial use, these techniques, providing significant environmental benefits and being cost-effective, could be incorporated into the Sevilla Process for developing environmental norms.
This collaborative platform will unite industry, technology providers, Member States, financial institutions, private investors, the public, academia, and the European Commission. It will create unique benefits and opportunities while promoting the uptake of innovative technologies to accelerate energy efficiency, circular economy, depollution, and decarbonisation in industry.
INCITE aspires to be the EU’s central point for identifying and evaluating the environmental performance of cutting-edge industrial technologies, informing related policy development and investments.
