In a groundbreaking endeavor towards sustainable carbon solutions, Rian Visser has been leading innovative research at TNO, the Dutch organization for applied scientific research.
IDConsortium
Rian Visser from the RUSTICA project partner TNO, aims to revolutionize various industries by introducing biochar as a sustainable alternative to fossil-based carbon.
Drawing from her extensive experience and expertise, Visser has spearheaded the development of the EnerChar method, which enables the large-scale production of biochar. This method utilizes biomass, such as wood residues and agricultural waste, to produce biochar through a gasification process. By converting biomass into biochar, Visser and her team have achieved remarkable results in reducing carbon emissions and promoting environmental sustainability.
Biochar, a versatile carbon-rich material, has wide-ranging applications across industries. From enhancing soil fertility in agriculture to reducing CO2 emissions in industrial processes, biochar offers a sustainable solution to mitigate climate change and promote circular economy principles.
Visser’s efforts have garnered significant attention and recognition, with her research poised to make a substantial impact on the global transition towards clean energy and sustainable practices. Through her collaboration with partners like Tata Steel and Wageningen University & Research, Visser is driving innovation and paving the way for a greener future.
In the global pursuit of sustainable alternatives to address climate change, research and innovation play a crucial role in shaping a cleaner, carbon-neutral economy and building a more resilient future.
